Sri Lanka Tourism , once again showed that Sri Lanka is a safe and an enjoyable destination with it’s many holiday aspects by participating at the Iconic moment of re-opening the Badulla - Ambewela Railway line , which was under repairs for further renovation. The Maiden Jouyrney started via with Udarata Menike,on 20th December 2025, an iconic train popular among both locals and tourists , for its spectacular route via Badulla to Ambewela , with lush greenery and cascading waterfalls along the way , making it create a spectacular picture. The train journey started at 8 am , under the patronage of Hon . Deputy Minister of Tourism, Prof . Ruwan Samarasinghe and Minister of Samantha Vidyarathne, and senior railway and government officials, among multi religious blessings, tourists, media personnel and locals, the train started its journey amidst the cheers of both locals and tourists, who were very much impressed with the occasion and the beautiful cultural performance.

According to the Railway Department, several regular train services between Badulla and Ambewela will operate from the 20th of December, restoring a vital transport link for local communities while reviving access to one of Sri Lanka’s most scenic railway corridors. Both Ministers addressed the gathering at the scene and highlighted the importance of the re-opening of this popular railway line to enhance Tourism, and predict a good sign for the future of Tourism. They also interacted with both locals and tourists, who also expressed their positive views on the occasion. The officials also joined the Train Ride which gave them an opportunity of speaking to a few passengers. This turns out to be another milestone for Sri Lanka tourism , to showcase its picturesque views and landscapes through train rides as these , to get a clear impression of Sri Lanka’s uniqueness as a world renowned travel destination.
