As for Sri Lanka the pollution of the ocean by coastal activities is increasing rapidly and it. Accounts for more than 60% of marine pollution with around 65% urban population pressure and about 70% organized industries concentrated in the Sri Lankan coastal zone, the thirty of population pressure is alarming. Our attempt is to reduce the level of pollution in marine environment and prevention of pollution in the marine environment in Sri Lanka.
Hon. President has approved cabinet paper in last year 2016. The every year 3rd of week in September cleaning of all coastal areas in Sri Lanka.
This programme coordinate by marine environment protection authority from 15th – 22nd September 2017. The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau combining conducted the beach cleaning Champaign on 16th Sep 2016, At Mt. Lavinia, Dehiwala, Wallawatta beach areas. The MEPA and SLTDA /SLTPB officers and young zoological association scouts association, Community Relation police with schools of Royal College Colombo, Anula Vidyalaya , Nugegoda. Over 300 participated beach cleaning programme at Mount Lavinia, Dehiwala and Wallawatta. Some up the areas telecasted by the Swarnawahini and published the news Item on 17th Sep 2017.
The SLTDA 2nd programme was held on 27th September 2017 at Benthota Warahena beach.
175 participants were participated the Benthota programme Induruwa Guruthalawa vidyalaya environment units, students were actively participated in this programme.
