Sri Lanka Tourism and Air Force Join Hands in Successful Tourist Rescue Mission

Sri Lanka Tourism, together with the Sri Lanka Air Force, successfully carried out a rescue mission to assist international tourists stranded in the Nuwara Eliya area due to severe weather conditions.

This operation was conducted under the direct supervision of Hon. Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, and the direct command of Mr. Sampath Tuyyakontha, Secretary of Defence. With the fullest support and cooperation of the Ministry of Defence and the Sri Lanka Air Force, the mission was executed swiftly and effectively.

The rescued group included 2 German nationals, 4 South Africans, 2 British citizens, 11 Indians, and 2 Slovenians, who were safely airlifted by helicopters to Colombo Port City in the afternoon.

This rescue stands as a clear demonstration of Sri Lanka’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding and protecting its visitors, as promised. It also reflects the strength of Sri Lanka’s tourism sector, where the safety, care, and wellbeing of guests remain our highest priority.
