The planting of Kaps for the Annual Esala Festival of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya was done on the auspicious day of May 06, 2023, as ordered by King Dutugemunu. After 45 days later, the 1st procession will start. Accordingly, the Esala procession will commence on June 19 and the final procession will be held on July 03, and Annual Esala Perahera will be concluded on July 04 with the water-cutting Festival at the Jeevamali Ferry on the Kataragama Menik River.
