The coastline from Weligama to Tangalle bay is known for its rugged rocks, sandy beaches and lush coconut groves and is rated as one of Asia's Best Beaches by Forbes magazine. As you approach Weligama along the southward coastline from Galle, you will encounter Sri Lanka's famous stilt fishermen -a unique method of fishing adopted by the local fishermen. A long pole with a crossbar is buried into the seabed close to the shore, and the fisherman swims or wades into the sea and perches himself on this pole. This method of fishing is used when the tide brings the fish in this particular
