  • Sri Lanka is a society that is centrally linked to the folk culture that is born from traditional heritage and many arts related to intangible heritage can be identified.
  • The world’s focus is on traditional heritage, folklore and related arts and on intangible heritage which is its main subject.
  • Every year, different states of the world implement various programs based on untouchable culture and the celebration of World Puppet Day is highly valued internationally among all these programs.
  • Thus, Sri Lanka’s World Puppet Day celebration in held every year on 21st March and in addition to traditional string puppetry, various puppet traditions are practiced in Sri Lanka.
  • Ambalangoda thread puppetry is chosen for these projects. The primary reason for this is that Ambalangoda thread puppetry has become a UNESCO national heritage in 2018, and it is a medium that has attracted a wide audience in Sri Lanka.
