The Ministry of Tourism Development in collaboration with Sri Lanka Tourism is organizing Sri Lanka’s biggest ever international travel fair in Colombo in May 2017. Recently described as “The most fashionable place to visit in 2017” by Vogue Magazine, Paris, Sri Lanka has been making headlines the world over as a tourism hotspot and this is the opportunity the world has been waiting for!

‘Gateway to South Asia 2017’ international travel fair will take place from May 4th to 7th 2017 at the BMICH in Colombo alongside the domestic travel and tourism fair, “Sancharaka Udawa.”

The event programme is as follows:

4^th May 2017 evening – Welcome dinner hosted by the Hon. Minister of Tourism

5^th and 6^th May – Travel Fair and B2B Sessions at BMICH in Colombo

7^th May – Day excursion to Heritage Cities of Kandy and Galle followed by Farewell Dinner in Colombo.

The main goal of Gateway to South Asia 2017 is to attract 250 new tour operators from new and existing markets who are currently not selling Sri Lanka and who may be interested in adding the destination to their portfolio in future. These operators will be from existing and emerging markets primarily identified by online airlines flying in to Sri Lanka from their respective operating destinations with inbound traffic targeted from winter season 2017.

Gateway to South Asia 2017 is designed to facilitate the government’s effort to achieve 4 million tourist arrivals by 2020 which is spearheaded by the Minister of Tourism Development, Lands and Christian Religious Affairs, Hon. John Amaratunga. The Minister has appointed travel trade veteran and former Ceylon Tourist Board Chairman, Mr. Udaya Nanayakkara as Chairman of the Organizing Committee.
